FAQs
When should I start having Math tuition?
For students who intend to move on to Junior College and are not confident in mathematics, it is encouraged to commence lessons in January, which gives them more time to get well-adjusted into the academic rigour of JC. Many students struggle to catch up with revision within the relatively short time frame of about 7 months before the crucial JC1 promotional exams at the end of September. In general, the focus in JC1 should be bridging content from the secondary school math syllabus to JC content, and JC2 should focus largely on preparation for the A Level exams.
There have been JC students who came to me for help just before they were due to sit for their JC1 promotional or JC2 preliminary exams. Most of them were unprepared or very stressed as they had performed way below their expectations. Excelling in your A levels requires two years’ worth of consistent effort and diligence, and it is risky to start revising your JC math syllabus less than half a year before your A level exams. Therefore, it is generally advisable to give yourself at least one year to prepare for your major examinations.
For secondary and IP school students, it is equally important to build up a strong foundation in mathematics as well. O level students will require a good grade in mathematics to enter JC or enrol in most Polytechnic courses, and it is just as useful for IP students who are weaker in mathematics to begin A level preparation earlier. Without the O level exams, the IP students lack the opportunity to properly revise 4 years’ worth of secondary school mathematics content, which may subsequently make it tougher for them to cope with the jump in rigour between Year 4 and JC mathematics.
Most importantly, it doesn’t pay to cram your revision in the last minute. Pace yourself and give yourself enough time to revise, regardless of whether you have tuition or not.

How are lessons at MathBucks conducted?
Each session is conducted in a small group of 4-6 students to allow for more interaction and opportunities to clarify any doubts pertaining to the concepts taught in a conducive learning environment.
Can I attend extra lessons on top of the 4 that I have every month?
Yes. To ensure fairness towards all students, extra lessons will be pro-rated accordingly. My schedule becomes busier during examination period so it is advisable to make arrangements for extra lessons at least 2 days in advance. Extra lessons are also subject to availability of time slots per day.
I need to cancel a lesson. Will I be penalized?
If you need to cancel a lesson, please inform me at least 2 days in advance, so as not to deprive other students of an otherwise available time slot. You can arrange for a make-up lesson within the same month. Any cancellation made less than 2 days in advance will render the lesson void unless there are special circumstances that will be duly taken into account.
Can I attend a trial lesson?
Sorry, trial lessons are not offered, but if students find that the lessons are not up to their expectations, they can stop attending after the lessons corresponding to their first month payment have been completed.
